Trend Alert: Rattan, Wicker and Woven Furniture

Undoubtedly one of the hottest interior trends in recent years, rattan and woven furniture has become one of my favourite home accents that I have used throughout our home. It is incredibly versatile and has the ability to transcend across a variety of interior design styles. Not to mention it's sustainable, which is a bonus in my books!

My mum loves to remind me how popular rattan furniture was in the 1970s, it's funny how trends can make a comeback. My Instagram feed and Pinterest boards are filled with spaces styled with rattan furnishings. This is most commonly found in Coastal, Bohemian and Scandinavian styled homes. The rattan trend is taking over TikTok as well, creators are going viral for their spin on how to up-cycle furniture using this material.

My secret to achieving this stylish look is to have one rattan or woven/wicker statement piece and style this with existing furniture and decor. Pieces I have purchased for our home include buffets, dining chairs, bedheads, bedside tables, pendants and bar stools. There is rattan furniture on the market that suits any budget. Here are some of my favourite rattan and woven pieces in our home, styled by yours truly:

Rattan Pendant

I knew I wanted our kitchen pendants to be bold and make a statement, and these handwoven Rattan Pendants from Empire certainly delivered! I love how they add volume but are equally as lightweight. Adding the perfect finishing touch to our kitchen. Go big or go home, I say!

Woven Floor Stool

I'll be the first to admit these Alseda Stool's from IKEA were mostly for the aesthetic of our living room, but they have quickly become a furniture item I use daily. They are absolutely perfect for floor sitting when we want to eat dinner at the coffee table or when the family come over.

Woven Bar Stools

These Woven Bar Stool's from Target were the absolute score of my life. Stumbling upon them as a result of sheer dumb luck, they have been continuously sold out as a result of high demand for the last year. A stylish option to achieve the look for less!

Rattan Bedside Table

The perfect mix of Boho and Coastal, this bedside table from Coles (yes that's right, COLES?!) is the perfect bedroom piece. This one was a limited addition piece, unfortunately it's no longer available. Style it with some dried florals and your favourite candle, and you've nailed an effortless look.

Dining Chairs

I found these chairs on clearance at Target. They were originally an orange-toned wood with rattan backing, which was totally not the vibe, so I painted them white and styled them with linen cushions to suit our space.

Rattan Bedhead

My most recent bargain was this Rattan Bedhead I found on clearance at Big W. Did I need another bedhead? No. Did I buy it anyway? Obviously. The natural curves and texture of this piece have totally levelled up our guest bedroom. I've styled this piece with my favourite linen bedding, a jute rug and sheer curtains to achieve a relaxed boho oasis.

Styling your home with rattan, woven and wicker furniture does not have to break the bank. Retail giants Target, Kmart and Big W have jumped on this trend and I am here for it! There are so many products available on the market right now, giving consumers endless options that suit any budget.
